Halo Reach: Noble Team Chemistry

Posted by Steve Christofferson

In the April issue of Japanese video game mag Famitsu Xbox, there is a
very short article about a recent conversation with Marcus Lehto,
Creative Director for Halo Reach. I nearly skipped it in this late
hour since almost everything had been covered already in the recent
media storm.

One sentence however caught my eye that reveals new information,
at least to me. Here is the original Japanese for those who can read it.
English translation is included below.

「部員どうしの相性みたいなものも存在しているんですよ。
嫌なキャラに
対してサポートをしないとか(笑)。」

"In Reach, the chemistry (or lack thereof) plays a role in how the
members in Noble Team interact with each other. If a character

harbors a disliking towards one of the characters he/she might
not
back that person up in combat." (laughs)

It will be interesting to see both how this element gets played out
in the campaign and where the characters' loyalties lie.
What could be the cause of the bad chemistry? Squad dissension
over the accidental killing of an indigenous non-combatant of Reach?

Going off information released so far, can you imagine which
characters in Noble Team might not get along with each other?
I think it would be fair to say that Carter and Catherine, being the only
survivors from the original team, could safely be exempted from this
conversation. Based on the picture above, I would definitely not suspect
it was Professor Plum in the conservatory with the candlestick.
Nope, it was Jorge on the battlefield with the heavy weapon! In fact,
I can almost hear Jorge shouting, "Come on! Doooo it! What are you
waiting for?!!!".

What are your thoughts?

P.S. Louis Wu kindly front paged the English translation above at HBO.
